What Are the Different Types of Codes and How Do They Work?

Modern car keys have unique chips that are specific to each vehicle, which is not the case with older keys. This prevents thieves from simply taking the key and turning on the car.

The keys are available at the dealership or cloned at a locksmith's shop. The procedure of the manufacturer differs however, it involves turning the ignition key to the "on" position, without starting the car and then removing the key after the specified time.

Transponder Codes

As its name suggests, transponders transmit an encoded signal containing the four-digit code when it is interrogated by air traffic control. This signal is known as a SQUAWK code and forms the basis of identification of aircraft on radar screens. It is also used to send specific messages to air traffic control in the event of an emergency or to alert air traffic controllers of changing weather conditions. Squawk codes can be used to communicate with ATC when the pilot is unable to communicate via radio. They are essential for safe flying.

Every aircraft is equipped with a transponder that responds to radar interrogation with an identifier code. This allows ATC to identify an aircraft that is surrounded by screens. In North America, 10th through 17th numbers of the VIN are referred to as the Vehicle Identification Section (VIS). The tenth and eleventh numbers indicate the year of the vehicle's manufacture. The eleventh digit indicates the assembly plant that manufactured the vehicle. The digits from tenth to 17th can also include additional information, such as features or options included inside the vehicle.

The VIN code is a serial number that has six digits, which uniquely identify the vehicle or truck. The last digit of the VIN code is also the check-digit. The remaining numbers have been transliterated into numbers. The first digit is given a value of 8, and each subsequent digit increases in value by one, until the seventh digit is nine, which becomes two. Then the entire VIN will be converted back to its original format by multiplying each weight by 11. If the result is identical to the check digit then the VIN will be valid.

Data Transfer
